Math Placement Test for Incoming Fall 2023 MUN Students

Incoming Fall 2023 MUN (St. John’s campus, and Grenfell campus) students will need a Math Placement Test (MPT) score to take entry level MATH or STAT courses. Entry level courses include: MATH 1000, 1005, 1050, 1051, 1052, 1090, and STAT 2500. This also applies to CNA students taking MA1104, 1120, 1121, or 1130. Students in Newfoundland and Labrador can register for the MPT in one of three ways: 1. Register NOW to write the Early MPT, at a MUN or CNA campus in late May or early June. Click the “Register for Early MPT” button on the MPT webpage: https://www.mun.ca/math/mpt. Early MPT registration closes May 12, 2023. 2. Register for a Start-of-Term MPT by adding “MATH 1MPT” on Self-Service when registering for fall courses. That MPT is written the day before classes start in September. 3. Students who want to write an Early MPT but who are more than 150km from any of the Early MPT sites can reach out to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics to request to have an Early MPT facilitated at an alternate location. Email [email protected] with the subject “Request for alternate MPT site”, or call 709 864 8914. Early MPT sites are listed on the MPT webpage. Students are recommended to do the Early MPT so that eligibility for a math course is known in plenty of time to finalize course registration before the term starts. Information about the Math Placement Test, including a sample paper, can be found on the MPT webpage: https://www.mun.ca/math/mpt. The primary source for information about prerequisite requirements for entry level math courses is the Course Criteria Chart: https://www.mun.ca/undergrad/first-year-information/course-criteria-charts/math-criteria-chart/.
